Council to Host Bovine Emergency Response Trainings
Minnesota Ag Connection - 09/23/2016

The Minnesota Beef Council, with sponsorship from AgStar Financial Services, plans to host three Bovine Emergency Response Program (BERP) Trainings in Luverne, Rochester and Staples Oct. 4-6. The BERP training is specifically designed to better equip Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS, Emergency Management, Public Safety Officials, Educators and Veterinarians on how to respond to emergency situations involving bovine animals.

The BERP Training for First Responders is designed to be an 8-hour (1 day) course providing an overview of response and issues present during incidents involving bovines and other large animals. Instruction is presented in lectures including background and response actions, biosecurity, proper animal care and handling, humane euthanasia, mortality handling and disposal. Hands-on practical training provides knowledge in animal handling, euthanasia, and triage and containment.

"These trainings will provide accident scene responders with key performance skills relative to some of the unique situations emergency responders may encounter during motor vehicle incidents involving bovine animals," said Ashley Kohls, Beef Quality Assurance Program Coordinator with the Minnesota Beef Council. "This training will assist in the effective preparation and response to this type of emergency and the unique situations that are presented."

The BERP training seminars will be held at the following locations:

-- Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. -- 5 p.m. at the Heintz Center Campus, 1926 Collegeview Road SE, Rochester, MN 55904

-- Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. -- 5 p.m. at Pizza Ranch, 110 E Main Street, Luverne, MN 56156
