NDSU NAMA Team Wins National Championship
Minnesota Ag Connection - 04/22/2019

North Dakota State University's National Agri-Marketing Association marketing team has claimed the national championship. This year's competition was held at the group's 2019 Agri-Marking Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

The NAMA marketing competition is an intense competition that brings together 30-to-35 schools each year, including institutions such as the University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, Ohio State University, University of Tennessee, Auburn University, Texas A&M, Kansas State University and Iowa State University.

The competition helps students gain practical marketing and research experience, while meeting with business professionals in agri-business and marketing. Each year, students take a new product idea and write a five-page marketing plan, which they turn into a 20-minute presentation for the competition.

This year, the NDSU team developed a marketing launch plan for a new product, an oat-milk ice cream called North Dakota Nice Cream. The product would serve a need for consumers, particularly lactose-intolerant customers, while providing benefits to North Dakota oat producers.

NDSU team members include:

- Clara Konetschka, a sophomore in strategic communication from Mendota Heights, Minn.

- Thomas Konetschka, a senior in agricultural economics from Mendota Heights, Minn.

- Emily Christofferson, a junior in finance from Napoleon, N.D.

- Jessica Refshaw, a sophomore in agribusiness from Mahnomen, Minn.

- Brita Swenson, a freshman in agribusiness from Lake Bronson, Minn.

- Ashley Bandemer, a sophomore in marketing from Glencoe, Minn.

- Katelyn Kokett, a senior in agricultural economics from Fargo, N.D.

- Nicholas Broberg, a senior in marketing from Wayzata, Minn.

- Dylan Kallman, a sophomore in agricultural economics from Lino Lakes, Minn.

- John Chadwick, a sophomore in economics from Bemidji, Minn.

Over the last four years, the NDSU team previously finished in third place twice and sixth place once.
