South Dakota Governor Leads Recruiting Trip to Minnesota
Minnesota Ag Connection - 05/08/2013
South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has worked a wide range of jobs during his life, including farmer, waiter, welder, painter, bus driver, lawyer and banker. As Governor, he can add job recruiter to the list.
On May 13, Gov. Daugaard is leading a group from the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation to the Mall of America. From 1-2 p.m., the Governor and his team will visit with shoppers, answer questions about career opportunities in his state and encourage Minnesotans to consider relocating to
South Dakota.
"We're targeting the Twin Cities because more Minnesotans have shown an interest in moving to South Dakota than workers from any other state," said State Labor and Regulation Secretary Pam Roberts. "South Dakota is a job seekers' market. We have more jobs than available workers."
In October 2006, South Dakota launched DakotaRoots.com -- a website designed to connect out-of-state workers with in-state careers. More than 3,031 Minnesotans have registered with the site since then, and 534 have found jobs and relocated their families to South Dakota; 471 are still actively looking.
"We want to share information about our great job opportunities. There are more than 10,000 to choose from, including many high-demand, high-wage jobs in the information technology, engineering, nursing and financial services fields," said Secretary Roberts. "The Governor also wants to tell people about the
quality of life, low cost of living and fewer taxes South Dakota offers."
Governor Daugaard's recruiting visit will take place next to the Dakota Roots kiosk on the first level of the north side in the Mall of America.
