Spring Wheat Planting at 13 Percent Complete
Minnesota Ag Connection - 04/19/2017

Warm, windy conditions last week allowed fields to dry out and for continued planting progress to take place in the southern portions of the spring wheat region. Planting of the U.S. spring wheat crop is 13 percent complete, behind last year's pace of 25 percent and the five-year average of 21 percent. Planting is just over half complete in South Dakota and 6-9 percent complete in the remaining states.

The beginning of this week has brought cooler temperatures and rain throughout North Dakota and eastern South Dakota which will slow planting progress. In the northern tier of the region, fields are still drying out from the snow melt and planting has not yet started.

Planting of the durum crop has begun in the southwest part of North Dakota with one percent planted. This compares to three percent last year and five percent on average. Montana has not yet reported any planting progress numbers for durum.
