U.S. Senate Bill Honors Ed Schafer
Minnesota Ag Connection - 03/16/2018

Senator John Hoeven Thursday released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed legislation to rename the Red River Valley Agricultural Research Center in Fargo, North Dakota as the Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center. The legislation, introduced by Congressman Kevin Cramer, previously passed the House of Representatives and will now go to the President to be signed into law.

"The Red River Valley Agricultural Research Center is a world class facility that conducts important research to further our state's number one industry," said Hoeven. "As the former Secretary of Agriculture, Ed Schafer was an advocate for agriculture not only in North Dakota but across the nation and it is fitting that this ag facility be named for him."

Schafer was the 29th U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, and served during the final year of the George W. Bush administration. He also served as governor of North Dakota between 1992 and 2000.
