Spring Sheep Workshop March 23 in Fargo

The 2019 Minnesota Lamb and Wool Producers Association (MLWPA) Spring Sheep Workshop will be held at the North Dakota State University Sheep Unit and Meats Lab in Fargo. Much of the focus this year will be on lamb carcass quality.

The day will begin with a Tour of the NDSU Sheep Unit under the direction of Skip Anderson. Following the tour, there will be a presentation on Including Leucine in Lamb Milk Replacer for Improved Performance by graduate student Jessica Reiners; and a demonstration of Ultrasound for Carcass Evaluation on Live Lambs by Dr. Travis Hoffman. From there, participants will head into campus to the NDSU Meats lab for a lamb lunch provided by Carnivore Catering. Afternoon seminars include Lamb Carcass Evaluation by Dr. Rob Maddock and Dr. Travis Hoffman; and Lamb Carcass Fabrication and Processing by Spencer Wirt. Several local Chefs have been invited to participate in the afternoon discussion as well.

The Spring Sheep Workshop will be March 23. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the day concludes at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person for youth, students and members of MLWPA and NDLWPA ($20 for non-member producers) and includes a lamb lunch. Go to mlwp.org for registration materials.
