Metsa Named Iron Range Deputy Commissioner
Minnesota Ag Connection - 02/19/2019

Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Commissioner Mark Phillips announced that Jason Metsa has been selected as deputy commissioner for the agency.

In his new position, Metsa will help carry out Gov. Tim Walz's "One Minnesota" vision, as well as the agency's mission of promoting and investing in business, community and workforce development for the betterment of northeastern Minnesota.

A fifth-generation Iron Ranger, Metsa previously served District 6B in the Minnesota House of Representatives for six years. During his time in the legislature, he successfully pushed for funding to create jobs and build infrastructure on the Iron Range.

"Jason's strong legislative experience will serve him well in his new position," said Phillips. "His in-depth knowledge of both the opportunities and challenges facing our communities will allow him to hit the ground running."

In addition to serving as the strategic lead for the agency's business and community development initiatives, Metsa also will focus on civic engagement, diversity and inclusion and relationship-building with community partners.

"I am honored to take on this new role and give back to the region that means so much to me," said Metsa. "I plan to take a hands-on approach and get out into the communities to listen and learn more about what programs and projects our citizens need."

Metsa lives in Virginia with his wife Amanda and son Josiah. A self-described "DIYer," he keeps busy with projects at home and at the cabin. He enjoys downhill skiing, fishing and visiting family at the lake. He also loves music and is a big Bob Dylan fan.

Metsa's official start date is Feb. 22.
