Minnesota Back at the Top in Sweet Corn Processing

In 2017 there were 112,600 total acres of sweet corn harvested in Minnesota with a total production of 18.6 million cwt. Fresh market production accounted for 668,800 cwt with a total value of $22.4 million. Production of sweet corn for processing totaled 889,934 tons and was valued at $57.0 million. Minnesota moved back into first place for processing sweet corn production in 2017, with 33 percent of the nation's total. U.S. sweet corn production totaled 79.3 million cwt.

Green pea production in Minnesota in 2017 totaled 1.93 million cwt from 46,000 harvested acres. Fresh market production totaled 1,900 cwt and was valued at $139,000. Processing production accounted for 96,503 tons of production and had a total value of $24.5 million. Minnesota moved into first place in the nation for green pea production. Pea production in the U.S. totaled 5.37 million cwt.

Fifty-one hundred acres of snap beans were harvested in Minnesota in 2017 for a total production of 535,500 cwt. Fresh market production totaled 7,500 cwt and was valued at $548,000. Processing production accounted for 26,132 tons of production and had a total value of $2.88 million. U.S. snap bean production totaled 18.0 million cwt.

Utilized production of pumpkins in 2017 totaled 50,600 cwt from 840 harvested acres. All pumpkins were for the fresh market and had a total value of $1.34 million.
