Workshops Offered for Aeration System Operators
Minnesota Ag Connection - 10/15/2018

Workshops are available this month for operators of lake aeration systems, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The workshops offered in Windom, Hutchinson and Waterville will provide opportunities to discuss policies, expectations for the upcoming season, as well as address changes in application and permitting procedures. It will also provide an opportunity to get questions answered regarding policy, process or operation.

State statute requires that all aeration system operators attend workshops as deemed necessary in order to receive a permit. At least one operator per system is required to attend a workshop.

Workshops will be offered:

- Oct. 23, 6:30 p.m., Windom Community Center, 1750 Cottonwood Lake Dr.

- Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m., Hutchinson area DNR office, 20596 State Highway 7

- Oct. 25, 6:30 p.m., Waterville area DNR Office, 50317 Fish Hatchery Rd.

Those unable to attend the workshops are urged to contact Amanda Yourd, aeration program coordinator, 651-259-5087 or Durel Carstensen, fisheries habitat specialist, 507-359-6046.

Aeration systems are operated in shallow lakes that are vulnerable to winterkill conditions. The DNR is the permitting agency for operators of aeration systems.
