Crookston to Host Inaugural Farm to Table Dinner

Celebrate northern Minnesota grown foods in the inaugural Farm to Table dinner Nov. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Start the evening with a demonstration by the hunt seat equestrian team in the University farm to tableTeaching and Outreach Center followed by dinner in at 6 p.m.in Bede Ballroom, Sargeant Student Center. The meal, served family style, will be prepared by local chefs and feature foods grown by U of M Crookston students, alumni, and friends.

One of the highlights of the dinner will be vintage and select wines from Fantesca Estate and Winery located in Napa Valley, Calif., along with choice meats raised by Protein Alliance in Alexandria, Minn. U of M Crookston senior Caleb Rempel and Rick Abrahamson, lecturer in horticulture have been growing vegetables and sunflowers especially for this Farm to Table event and homegrown, grain-fed Angus beef raised locally by U of M Crookston, students, faculty and staff will be included on the menu.

"Our event will highlight the University of Minnesota Crookston students, expose friends and partners to our beautiful campus while experiencing locally grown and prepared food," says Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause.

"Our Farm to Table celebration will create a memorable farm-centric experience and bolster a mutual understanding among our guests, alumni, students and our Crookston community. The menu will include great ingredients grown by our students using sustainable practices while incorporating unique processes in northern Minnesota," says Chancellor Holz-Clause.

Featured at Farm to Table is:

Fantesca Estate & Winery, a California wine company owned by University of Minnesota alumni Duane and Susan Hoff. Duane is the son of longtime Crookston residents and U of M Crookston faculty member Dave and Irene Hoff.

Protein Alliance is a global meat brokerage and trading company located in central Minnesota owned by U of M Crookston alumni Jeff Stauffenecker 1990 and Carl Wittenburg 1985.

Local spirits and craft beer sampling from Revelation Ale Works and Far North Spirits both of Hallock, Minn.
