Potential Buyer Looking at Shuttered Oscar Mayer Plant
USAgNet - 02/23/2017

The parent company of Oscar Mayer says a firm with experience in disposing of assets of shuttered factories has interest in purchasing the Oscar Mayer plant in Madison, Wisconsin. Kraft Heinz confirmed on Wednesday that Reich Brothers Holdings is a 'serious contender' for the meat processing plant, which recently closed after more than 100 years of operation.

Reich Brothers CEO Adam Reich told the Wisconsin State Journal that his company buys and sells turn-key manufacturing facilities and that they have a prior relationship with Heinz and Kraft.

The Oscar Mayer site sits on 72-acres on Madison's east side.

World famous for its wieners and bologna products, Oscar Mayer had been owned by Philip Morris for many years until it was sold to General Foods in 1985. Kraft purchased the brand in 1988.

The Madison office has been in operation since 1919. The last of its employees are expected to be let go in March.
