Drought Monitor: Cold Fronts Starved of Moisture Spans Country
USAgNet - 12/03/2021

Despite several Pacific weather systems dragging cold fronts across the width of the contiguous United States, the western ridge starved them of precipitation everywhere but parts of the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, Great Lakes, and Texas.

As a result, drought conditions intensified the last week of November in parts of the southern to central Rockies, Great Plains, Lower- to Mid-Mississippi Valley, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic states, as well as Puerto Rico.

According to today's Drought Monitor report of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), excessive evapotranspiration and windy conditions further dried soils, again especially in western portions of the Plains, as seen in several soil moisture indicators.
